Student Reactions to the Election

On Nov. 7 at 11:24 a.m., CNN was the first news network to project Democratic Nominee Joseph Biden as the President-elect. Since then, most major news organizations have projected his win. Here are some Montgomery County students’ thoughts:

“The election this year was very close and intense, but I’m mainly happy that it’s over. I was super nervous while the count was going on, especially since it took such a long time. I’m glad that several RM [Richard Montgomery] teachers took the chance to discuss the election, like in my journalism class.” – Richard Montgomery High School sophomore Samantha Wu

“I am super excited that Biden got elected president, not because he is a Democrat or because I hate Trump; it’s because he preaches a sense of unity, something which I feel has been lacking in the current administration’s message to our country.” – Richard Montgomery sophomore Adithya Kidambi

“I was overjoyed when I heard that Biden was the new president because we will no longer have a racist, homophobic and misogynistic person holding office anymore. We finally have someone who cares more about the American people than the amount of money in his pockets. America has the first-ever woman vice president of color as well.” – Poolesville High School sophomore Megha Jasti

“Although I wasn’t feeling overly optimistic about America’s future, I absolutely feel much more hopeful.” – Richard Montgomery sophomore Anna Lee
