Editor-in-Chief: Shelby Roth

Richard Montgomery Senior Shelby Roth is excited to enter her third year with the MoCo Student, this time as the Editor-in Chief. She is also the Online Managing editor for her school newspaper, The Tide. In her free time she enjoys swimming and playing field hockey.

Editor-in-Chief: Elli Jacobs

Senior Elli Jacobs is excited to be entering her second year on the MoCo Student as an EIC. Outside of the Moco Student she is also the Science and Tech editor for Richard Montgomery’s The Tide. In her free time, Elli likes to crochet, take care of cats, and play piano.

Senior Sam Cutler is excited for her third year on the MoCo Student, serving as a copy editor. She writes for her school newspaper, The Richard Montgomery Tide, and looks forward to expanding the section and working with new people. In her free time, Sam enjoys listening to music, baking and reading.

Pragna Pothakamuri is a junior at Thomas S. Wootton High School and is excited to start her third year on the MoCo Student as a copy editor. Previously she has written for the MoCo Student as a features writer and is currently a features editor for Wootton’s Common Sense newspaper. In her free time, she enjoys creative writing, personality quizzes, and spending time with family and friends.

News: Katherine Sundstrom

Katherine Sundstrom is a junior at Richard Montgomery High School and is excited to start her first year with The MoCo Student as news editor. She has previously written for the news section of RM’s newspaper The Tide, and worked as an assistant sci-tech editor. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, solving puzzles, and going out for sushi, her favorite food.

Montgomery County News: Jessica Yao

Jessica Yao is a junior at Richard Montgomery High School. She is excited to contribute to The MoCo Student as the editor for MoCo News. In her free time, she enjoys playing the flute and hanging out with her cat, Garfield, and dog, Odie.

Opinion: Sabrina Solares

Sabrina Solares is looking forward to being a part of The MoCo Student this year. She was previously a staff writer for the MoCo News section, and now she is an Opinion editor. In her free time she enjoys reading, writing, and watching movies.

Opinion: Lydia Seo

Junior Lydia Seo is excited for her second year as a part of The MoCo Student, this time as an opinions editor! She is also currently an editor for the RM Tide. When she isn’t writing, Lydia loves playing tennis, reading and playing the clarinet.

Arts and Culture: Sahana Thyagrarajan

Sahana Thyagarajan is excited to start her 4th and final year on The MoCo Student, this time as an Arts and Culture editor. Previously, she was a writer in the Arts and Culture section and is currently the Multimedia editor for The Black & White, Walt Whitman High School’s newspaper. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and playing soccer.

Features: Ximena Sacks

Ximena (pronounced he-men-ah) Sacks is a junior at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Last year was her first year at the newspaper, where she was a features reporter. Coincidentally, she is also the section director for features at her school’s newspaper, the Tattler. Besides journalism, she enjoys playing tennis, hanging out with my friends, and going on walks with her crazy dog. She has lived most of her life in Latin America and she hopes to bring a global perspective to the issues in our county!

Features: Avni Koenig

Avni Koenig is excited to be an editor for the Features section in her third year at The MoCo Student. She has previously written for the Opinion and Sports sections, and also serves as an editor for Sonderful Writings. Avni is a junior at Wootton High School. In her free time, you can find her playing basketball, listening to music, and watching movies with friends.

Sports: Ari Fine

Senior Ari Fine is in his third year on The MoCo Student and first as sports editor. As sports editor, Ari hopes to continue to innovate the section and be creative with article topics. In his free time, Ari enjoys going on runs and playing lacrosse with friends.

Young Writers: Anjali Harrison

Anjali Harrison is a junior at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring. She is excited for her second year on The MoCo Student and her first year as an editor for the Young Writers section. She additionally writers for her school’s online publication, Silver Chips Online. Outside of writing, she enjoys spending time outside, reading, watching shows and films, and hanging out with her three cats.

Young Writers: Isabella Langlee

Junior Isabella Langlee is excited to be a section editor for Young Writers this year in The MoCo Student. When she’s not chasing down interviewees for articles or cranking out short stories, she’s searching for her next snack, fast-forwarding through a war movie, or dilly-dallying.

Graphics: Meera Menon

Meera Menon is a current senior at Thomas Sprigg Wootton High School in Rockville, Maryland. As a long time MoCo Student graphic designer, she is delighted to join this year as Graphic Design Section Head. Meera enjoys various art mediums. In her spare time she likes to create black/white landscape works. Her favorite mediums are watercolor, pastel, charcoal, and of course digital graphics! She has many innovative ideas for the graphics team and looks forward to working with them this year!

Samiya Mirakbar is a junior at Walter Johnson High School who’s excited to start her second year at The MoCo Student as the graphics section editor. At school, she’s an active member of Art Honors Society, and after school, works as a member of the Student Council at the National Portrait Gallery in DC. As a passionate artist, she enjoys painting and photography, both through her extracurriculars and free time. When she’s not painting, she loves to hang out with friends and with her cat.

Social Media: Catherine Nguyen

Senior Catherine Nguyen is excited to manage The MoCo Student’s social media. She loves to design and create art. In her free time, you can find Catherine playing field hockey or baking.
