Netflix has been known to broadcast many incredibly successful exclusive and original shows and movies which have kept the service afloat and in the spotlight. Squid Game, a recently released Korean series, has provided many people with a new reason to watch Netflix. As the year closes, here’s a quick recap of some of the best Netflix shows right now.
To start off our listing, Violet Evergarden: The Movie, a highly anticipated film, is being added on October 13 this year. As a sequel to the wildly successful animated series Violet Evergarden is finally coming to Netflix US a little over a year after the movie’s original release date. The original 13 episode series received numerous awards and was the first animated series to win the Kyoto Animation grand prize. The movie continues the story of Violet, a war orphan raised in the army, as she struggles to understand human emotions and interact with the people around her. The story is at times heartwarming, but is also equal parts heartwrenching, carrying the viewer through a rollercoaster of emotions. This movie is sure to leave you with something to think about.
Following up with an abundantly more dramatic show filled to the brim with dark themes, You is an engrossing physiological thriller that first came to Netflix on September 9th, 2018. We are quickly approaching the release date of the show’s third season on October 15th. This riveting story follows the idea of “What would you do for love” pushed to the absolute maximum. Through any means necessary You highlights the insanity of Joe Goldberg, a boy who will stop at anything to get closer to a girl he likes. The simple crush that initiates the show quickly develops into an unhealthy obsession.
Continuing on with another thrilling show, Locke and Key is a fascinating blend of fantasy and fright with its second season coming to the platform on October 22nd. Often being compared to The Stranger Things, another one of Netflix’s most successful shows, Locke and Key takes viewers through an adventure that teaches about the heaviness of loss and the heartwarming bonds that tie people together. The series revolves around the Locke family after the father was mysteriously killed under questionable circumstances. The family then discovers a set of powerful and magical keys tied to their ancestral home, simultaneously awakening an ancient demon to pursue them and steal the keys.
Switching back to movies to be excited about, the prequel Zach Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves is releasing on Netflix around the end of the spooky month (October 29th). The movie is set at the beginning of the zombie outbreak shown in the original movie. Rather than the apocalypse that has taken over, Army of Thieves details a tense safecracking heist. If you enjoyed Army of the Dead or are just looking for an interesting movie to soak up some time, this movie is sure to present a dramatic experience.
New shows and movies are always coming to Netflix, and many are exclusive to the platform. There are many amazing items that are coming soon that aren’t mentioned in this article, so I encourage you to check out the entire catalog available. Regardless of what genre you enjoy and what style of content you prefer to consume, there will always be something that appeals to you on Netflix, even if you have to do a little bit of searching.
