A Covid Snow Day in MoCo

While the virtual school environment may not have brought along the snow days Montgomery County Public School students tend to look forward to every year, the snow that fell upon Montgomery County yesterday certainly gave way to activities as students found themselves getting into the holiday spirit. With so much uncertainty in the world right now, seeing snow is a familiarity in this unfamiliar pandemic that can inspire students to get in the right spirit. Here are some ways that MCPS students managed to enjoy the weather and get into the holiday spirit:

“I enjoy the snow because it’s so much fun to play in; I get to throw snowballs with my siblings and friends, build snowmen, make snow angels on the ground and sled on steep hills. Also, I really love how when I walk into the woods or a forest area, the place almost feels like a ‘Winter Wonderland.’ It’s obviously an amazing feeling.”

  • Quince Orchard High School sophomore Noor Deify

“I really enjoy the snow because it makes me happy. I took my dog for a long walk, and she jumped around snow puddles.”

  • Winston Churchill High School senior Jessica Hu

“I’m not that interesting. I just stayed in, did some homework and watched some old Disney movies with the family.”

  • Quince Orchard senior Jasmine Echeona

No matter what holidays they may celebrate, students can still come together and celebrate the spirit of the season with the beautiful, surrounding weather. As the snow falls, the roads ice up like a frigid skating rink, and the trees lose their fall colors before ultimately being reborn again, the changing weather can signal some sense of normalcy to students’ lives in the near future. With so much unpredictability in this world, the usual changing patterns of the weather can provide relief to students in these times.
