On Friday, Northwest High School hosted its annual Diversity Night, a fun-filled evening filled with activities designed to bring together a diverse community and bridge across different generations and cultures. At this year’s event, sponsored by The Minority Scholars Program (MSP), students and staff represented a host of countries and organizations from around the school, including Columbia, India, Honduras, Mexico, Nepal, Gay-Straight Alliance, Mexico, Pakistan, American Sign Language (ASL), the Philippines and Italy. People enjoyed the scrumptious cuisine from many different continents and cultures as they socialized and learned about the multitude of cultures present in Montgomery County. To conclude the night, there were a variety of student run performances that showcased many of Northwest’s clubs such as 4SW, Chamber Singer, Step Team, Latin Dance and Night and Day (K-pop).
A keynote speaker at the event and member of the District 4 Montgomery County Council, Nancy Navarro, was impressed by the wealth of talent that Northwest students brought to their on-stage performances. “I was truly blown away by the energy in the jammed packed auditorium,” she said. “[I was] honored to deliver the keynote at the 2nd Annual Diversity Night by The Minority Scholars Program at Northwest High School.”
