On September 16, havoc broke loose at Walt Whitman High School when a student was arrested after allegedly hitting another student with a frying pan.
19 year old Prince Cutchember of Bethesda was charged with first-degree assault after attacking a student with a frying pan he allegedly brought from home. Cutchember is currently being held without bail at the Montgomery County Detention Center in Rockville. Cutchember is facing one charge of first-degree assault, which could result in up to 25 years in prison.
The student who was assaulted was treated at the school by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services but was not taken to the hospital. Further information about the victim cannot be released due to privacy laws.
The incident, which occurred at about 10:41 A.M., caused students to remain in their fourth period class until the altercation had been dealt with. In addition to the frying pan incident, the fire alarms went off at around 11:15; however, the two were unrelated, and students were back in the classrooms by 11:35.
Robert Dodd, the Principal at Whitman, sent the community an email regarding the incident and explained how the two incidents were not connected.
The two incidents caused an uproar of chaos at the school; however, due to the responsiveness of the Montgomery County Police Department and Fire and Rescue and the cooperation of students and staff, the incidents were both easily tackled.
