During a recent MCR-MCJC General Assembly, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joshua Starr expressed hopes for changes in school start times, stating that he “would like to see [a start times] proposal approved.” Though the initial plans that surfaced in the fall of 2013 were turned down by the Board of Education, discussion surrounding this costly, controversial proposal lingers in the MCPS community. While many high school students acknowledged that they often experience sleep deprivation during the school year, fewer are optimistic about pushing start-times back as a remedy. Similarly, teachers have voiced mixed opinions: some noted concerns with the morning rush-hour traffic, while others articulated sympathy for the “walking zombies” they see in class.Originally posted on December 30, 2014
