Shake Shack opened the doors of its first restaurant in Montgomery County on Thursday, September 6th in the premier dining and shopping center of Cabin John Village. Founded just 13 years ago, the fast casual restaurant chain originated in New York City and currently has nearly 150 locations across the world.
Shake Shack began as a hot dog cart in Manhattan’s Madison Square Park, and was a part of the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation. The cart was quite the success, with Shake Shack fans lining up daily for three summers. In 2004, a permanent kiosk opened in the park, and Shake Shack was born.
This modern day “roadside” burger stand serves up burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, shakes, beer, wine and more. An instant neighborhood fixture, Shake Shack welcomes people from all over the city, country and world to come together and enjoy fresh, simple, versions of the classics. The rest, is burger history.
They have finally made it to MoCo.
In addition to the Shack classics, the Cabin John Shack will also be spinning up the following unique selection of frozen custard concretes in collaboration with local purveyors: Pie Oh My, Cookie Butter Blender and Shack Attack. As part of the chain’s mission to “Stand for Something Good,” five percent of sales proceeds from the restaurant’s soft opening on Wednesday and all lifelong sales from its new “Pie Oh My” frozen custard will go to the Tree House Children’s Advocacy Center, according to a press release from the restaurant chain.
The 3,000-square foot Shack features an outdoor patio and plenty of seating for guests. As part of their initiative to stand for something good in whatever they do, the Cabin John Shack strives to support the community through donations, events and volunteering.
Listed below are reviews from three residents in Montgomery County:
“There is also outdoor seating for those of us who want to be outside enjoying the summer time! The only thing I’d complain about is that the food took about 30 minutes to be ready, but it was well worth the wait.” -Daniel Walker, freshman at Wootton High School
“I ordered the smoke shack burger, which was delicious. I’d recommend it to everyone reading this review. Overall, great experience. Thank you so much, you made our day the best day!” -Amanda Smith, sophomore at Churchill High School
“I ordered the single ShackBurger and SmokeShack which was mouth watering. You can also pre-order and pick up your faves at The Shack with the mobile ordering Shack App for Android and iOS.” -Han Lee, resident of Montgomery County
