Weathering the Weather: Major Winter Storm Friday – Saturday

On Friday, a strong cut-off upper level low will approach the area from the east and pop a surface low off cape Hatteras. This is a very similar setup to massive snowstorms of the past such as February 2010 (Snowmaggedon). We’re looking at a general start time around 5-9 AM Friday morning and an end time 5-9 PM Saturday. The snow will probably be heaviest late Friday night and possibly Saturday late morning. There will be widespread closures and delays Friday, Saturday, and into Sunday and Monday. Expect strong winds to lead to blowing and drifting of snow as well as scattered power outages. Unfortunately for us, the storm is coming at a bad time to cancel school. Still, if exam makeup day is cancelled Friday we might get Tuesday off.
On the graphic below is some percentages for different snowfall amounts– Remember, this is very likely to change upwards or downwards. Feel free to ask any questions you may have below and I will continue updating you throughout the week.
